The Story line for this year is the possible de-crowning of recently retired NHL point leader Frank Nighbor as the NHL's most pointed man by last years regular season and playoff MVP Howie Morenz. Howie currently sits at 355 points in his 345 NHL games and if he can have a season like he has had the past three where he has averaged 55 points a year he will surpass Frank and his point total lead as he only currently sits 28 points behind.

The other big story this year will be about net minders Lorne Chabot of the Toronto Maple Leafs and George Hainsworth of the Montreal Canadiens. George has had some great season the past two years even though he is getting up in age (37) while Chabot exploded onto the scene last year and is expected to be a prime net minder in the NHL for the next half decade as he is only 31 years of age.

How will the Maple Leafs respond to being kicked out of the Playoffs last year after posting the best record and can the Candiens win their 4th straight Stanley Cup.

Trade Deadline
The Start of the 1932 NHL season has seen the Montreal Canadiens struggle and Toronto Maple Leafs power their way to the top once again. Some new comers to the top are the Detroit Red Wings who finished dead last in the 1931 season and the other Montreal team the Maroons who finished last year in 7th. Time will tell if these two organizations have turned things around, but til now the save bet is still on the Maple Leafs to win their 1st championship under their new name and first since the 1921/22 St. Patrick's won it.

Howie Morenz has finally done it, with a power play goal at 11:22 of the first period against the New York Americans on January 28th, 1933 he surpassed Frank Nighbor as the most pointed man in the NHL.

The NHL trade deadline sees some very familiar faces at the top of its stats leader board, however Howie Morenz does not find himself in the top three in any categories even with his historical season in progress.
Toronto's Joe Primeau is the number one star so far this season, tying last years mid point in assists at 27 and leading all in points at 42. Joe looks to be trying to not only beat his own record set last year of most assists a season in a single season (42) but also after Cooney Weilands 1929/1930 most points in a season at 73.

This Years net minder who has been on a tear is New York Rangers John Ross Roach, currently first in the NHL in wins (19), first in GAA (1.98) with goalies who have played at least 25 game, and second in Save Percentage (.923) behind Chicago Black Hawks Charlie Gardiner.

End of Regular Season
The Toronto Maple Leafs finished first in the league for the second straight year posting a 31-17-0 record for 62 points. they narrowly beat out the newcomers to the upper standards of the NHL the Montreal Maroons who finished the season with 61 points, and improvement of 25 points from last year and the best year in the teams history. The Rangers and Canadiens easily found themselves slide into the third and fourth spots respectfully as each posted winning records and above 57 points.

Toronto's Joe Primeau continued to be the best player in the NHL but did not complete or break either of the stats he was aiming to at the trade deadline. He did however lead the league in points (62), assists (38), and finished tied third for goals (24).

Howie Morenz of the Montreal Canadiens is moving up in all leader categories. Currently leading the NHL in Points (406). Morenz also has 250 goals in his career and is expected within the next 2 or 3 seasons to take over not only 2nd all time goal leader Frank Nighbor (262) but 1st overall Cy Denneny (281). Morenz also has a chance to move up the assist ladder where he currently sits second with 156 all time. That will be tough as above him is New York Ranger Frank Boucher who has a 30 assist lead and is in the prime of his career as well.

The other major news is just one year after passing Clint Benedict's all time record George Hainsworth of the Montreal Canadiens is having his title as most winningest goalie challenged by New York Rangers net minder John Ross Roach who currently sits 18 games shy of passing Hainsworth as most winningest net minder.

The NHL goalies stats was all over the place this year, with many net
minders finishing all around the map. This years best net minder will be a tough award to give away!

Playoffs

Montreal Canadiens (4) - Toronto Maple Leafs (1)
The first round of the playoffs see the rematch of the Stanley Cup Finals last year as the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the defending champions Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens turned their second half of the season around moving from 6th to 4th.
Game 1:
The highly anticipated series, the rematch went without a hitch to start at Maple Leafs Gardens in Toronto. 15,726 fans showed up for what was expected to be a hard hitting and well played game.
Game one did not disappoint the fans in Toronto as the Maple Leafs went to work and shutout the Canadiens offense winning the game 4-0 on two goals by the young Syd Howe
Game 2:
Game two saw a ton of offense as the Canadiens finally found a way to get through Toronto's net minder Lorne Chabot who shut them out just the game before. At the end of the night the Canadiens came away with the 4-3 victory
Game 3:
Game three saw the Canadiens return home to the Montreal Forum and to their 17,959 fans. Aurel Joliat, Montreal's saviour in last years playoffs, netted two goals in the second only a minute apart and the Canadiens got a great game from George Hainsworth winning 4-1 and taking the 2-1 lead in the series.
Game 4:
Game four saw a back and forth contest in the Forum as the Maple Leafs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after one period of play. The Canadiens did not lie down and die however netting three goals in the second and shutting out the Maple Leafs. The resilience of the Candiens however was not able to withstand the power of the Maple Leafs as they scored two in the 3rd and finished the period tied 4-4 before Bob Gracie put his 3rd goal of the series away in overtime for the Toronto win.
Game 5:
After so many back and forth offensive games in the first series of the playoffs game five showed that both teams are able to play some defense as only one goal was scored combined by both teams. That goal was scored in the third period by Obs Heximer of the Maple Leafs to give them a 3-2 series lead.
Game 6:
Elimination game for the Canadiens as they go home to the Forum to take on the Leafs. The first period did not go as they had hoped as the Maple Leafs jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead on goals from Red Conn, Joe Primeau, and King Clancy. The second period did not hold that much better as the Leafs finished up 4-3 after Ace Bailey scored, Montreal's third line center however did have 2 unanswered goals to at least give life to the Canadiens heading into the 3rd. The third period however did see the Canadiens eliminated from the playoffs as the Toronto Maple Leafs netted 3 goals, giving up 2, and winning game 6 7-5 to head to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Montreal Maroons (3) - New York Rangers (2)
The Maroons have posted their bets season ever getting into 3rd place, new to the NHL playoffs and going against the heavily Favorited New York Rangers the Maroons would like to show people what they got.
The best of seven series did turn out to be quite the show as the underdog Montreal Maroons won the series in five games against the Rangers to head to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Montreal Maroons (3) - Toronto Maple Leafs (1)
The Stanley Cup Finals pinned the heavily favored to win Maple Leafs against the Montreal Maroons in a best of seven series. Unfortunately the Maroons were not able to make the series very interesting as the Maple Leafs won the series in 5 games, dominating the Maroons. Lorne Chabot only allowed 7 goals against in the entire series.
