1945-1946 Season Review

St. Louis finishes first overall and narrowly misses winning its first Cup (as St. Louis) losing to Pittsburgh in 3 games.

Detroit’s Shutron leads the NHL in goals and points. Boston’s Lachance leads in assists.

Detroit’s D-man Mathys Vielleux wins MVP and defenceman of the year.

Montreal’s Vincent Tremblay is named best goalie.

Pittsburgh is sold to a local ketchup company that briefly contemplated renaming the team the “57’s”. Thankfully they stick with Yellow Jackets. Strong corporate ownership here and in St. Louis will really help secure those teams for the long term.

With the War over attendance has rebounded sharply around the league leading to talk of expansion. The NY Times is reporting that Philly, LA and San Francisco are all interested.

With improved finances we (us and the 4 non-Norris teams ) could dig really deep and offer to pay off the Bruins debts to Norris, thus reducing his influence to 3 teams out of 8 and allowing us to control the direction of the NHL. So long as we choose expansion sites very carefully we should be ok.
