Walkers news: April 21 -- Milwaukee 3, St. Louis 1
River Walkers starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks took a shutout into the bottom of the ninth inning, but his attempt to complete the shutout went south when Milwaukee's Nelson Cruz hit a three-run home run to give the Keg Lifters a 3-1 win at County Stadium.
Hendricks had scattered five hits through eight innings before taking the mound in the ninth.
However, Mallex Smith and D.J. LeMahieu opened the inning with consecutive singles. They both moved up a base on a Kyle Seager sacrifice fly.
Cruz then hit the first pitch he saw over the left-field wall to give Milwaukee the win.
Hendricks finished the game, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked one.
St. Louis got its only run in the fifth inning on a RBI single from Manny Pina.
The River Walkers had taken the first two games of the three-game weekend series.
