Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning

Montreal heads out to Florida to play the Lightning. Tampa is led by RD Ben Stewart. The 29 year old Stewart has 1 goal and 2 points in 2 games but had 18 goals and 41 points in 82 games for the Lightning last year. The Lightning "captain" is LD Tony Jones. Jones is a 27 year old American born defenseman. He has 1 goal and 4 points so far this year in 2 games. Jones had 3 goals and 32 points with 113 PIMs last year in 68 games and was limited to 68 games due to a bicep injury in February 1982. LW Gene Schuler can be an offensive threat, he has 2 goals so far this year and had 17 goals along with 29 assists and 150 PIMs last year with the Kings. He was traded in the off-season to the Lightning.

The Lightning come into the game with a 2-0-0 record, 1 of those wins was a 4-2 win over the Canadiens 6 days ago. Montreal sends G Mike Blackshear to the nets, he has a .931 save % to start the season in 3 games. Yevgeny Ronov is still out, Rob Lynch will remain on the 2nd line.

Tampa opened the scoring 8 minutes in to take a 1-0 lead on their 7th shot of the night. The Lightning go up 2-0 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the 1st. The shots end up 13-8 in favour of Tampa in the 1st. Montreal was unable to capitalize on a 2 man advantage early in the 2nd and shortly after that Tampa makes it 3-0. Montreal controlled the 2nd period outshooting Tampa 16-9, but the Lightning got the only goal. Montreal did get on the board early in the 3rd, Melvin Swiney with his 1st of the year at 0:45 mark. Montreal continued to control the play but Tampa scored on their 2nd shot of the period after over 12 minutes of play in the 3rd, 4-1. The Habs never really got back into the game after that.

Tampa C Yann Boulanger was named the 1st star. He has 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 games so far this season.
