Tampa opened the scoring 8 minutes in to take a 1-0 lead on their 7th shot of the night. The Lightning go up 2-0 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the 1st. The shots end up 13-8 in favour of Tampa in the 1st. Montreal was unable to capitalize on a 2 man advantage early in the 2nd and shortly after that Tampa makes it 3-0. Montreal controlled the 2nd period outshooting Tampa 16-9, but the Lightning got the only goal. Montreal did get on the board early in the 3rd,
Melvin Swiney with his 1st of the year at 0:45 mark. Montreal continued to control the play but Tampa scored on their 2nd shot of the period after over 12 minutes of play in the 3rd, 4-1. The Habs never really got back into the game after that.
