Despite having s stretch of sixteen scoreless innings during the series, the Cubs swept Cincinnati. Now they travel to St Louis to take on the Cardinals in a four game series.

In the top of the second, the Cubs put runners at the corners with one out and then Tinker grounded to second to advance both runners and pick up an RBI. The Cubs went on to load the bases with two out before Thompson struck out Evers to retire the side.

In the bottom of the second, the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out. Thompson flew out to right and then Schulte threw Beckley out at home after he had tagged up and tried to score thus ending the inning.

After three: Chicago 1 St Louis 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals again loaded the bases with one out. Thompson grounded to third and the lead runner was forced at home for the second out. Burch then grounded to short to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Grady threw Chance out on an attempted steal of second base. It was the 10th time this season Grady caught a would be base stealer.

In the bottom of the sixth, Arndt hit an inside the park home run with a man on base to give the Cardinals the lead.

After six: St Louis 2 Chicago 1.

In the top of the seventh, the Cubs turned a Cardinals throwing error into a game tying Sheckard run-scoring single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Grady delivered the RBI single to put the Cardinals back in front. Beckley added a sacrifice fly that scored Smoot.

The Cubs put runners at the corners in the top of the ninth but Chance grounded to short to end the game.

The two teams combined for 23 hits in the game.

Final score: St Louis 4 Chicago 2.
