In the top of the first, Seymour delivered the RBI single. Seymour then tried to steal second but was thrown out by Kling. It was the 10th time this season Kling caught a base stealer.

The Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first. The Cubs then scored three on a Schulte triple. Steinfeldt then brought Schulte home with a sacrifice fly.

Lobert led off the top of the seventh with a triple and then scored when Odwell grounded to third.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Tinker grounded to second and the lead runner was forced at home for the second out. Kling then flew out to center to end the inning.

The Reds went down in order in the top of the ninth
