The Cubs committed two errors in the top of the second and the Cardinals loaded the bases with two out despite not having even gotten their first hit of the game. Beebe then struck out McGlynn to retire the side.
An error in the third inning, however, hurt the Cubs as Grady got an RBI double. However, Grady injured his back sliding into second and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Gabby Street.

In the top of the fourth, Bennett scored on a passed ball.

The final three innings went quietly as the Cubs were held to just two hits for the game.
