In the bottom of the first, Burroughs got the scoring started with an RBI single.

After three: Texas 1 Oakland 0.

In the top of the fourth, Epstein tied the game with an RBI single. Green followed with a two-run triple to put the Athletics in the lead.

After six: Oakland 3 Texas 1.

In the top of the eighth, the Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out. Rudi went down on strikes for the first out. Bando was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Epstein brought two home with a single. With runners at first and second and one out, Jan Dukes took the mound for the Rangers and got Green to ground into the 4-6-3 to retire the side.

Rollie Fingers took the mound for the Athletics in the bottom of the ninth. Kubiak hit an RBI triple. But that was not near enough.

The Athletics collected 10 hits in the win.

Final score: Oakland 6 Texas 2.
