Tiefenauer walked the first three batters he faced to give the Phillies bases loaded nobody out in the bottom of the first. Callison singled to score one. Demeter reached when Larker mishandled a grounder to bring another run home. Taylor singled to make it 3-0. Dalrymple walked on a full count pitch. 4-0 Phillies. And bases were still loaded with nobody out. Amaro grounded into the 5-4-3 but Demeter scored to make it 5-0. Bennett, the pitcher and ninth batter of the inning got an RBI single next.

After three: Philadelphia 6 Houston 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Phillies loaded the bases with one out. Demeter grounded into the 6-4-3 to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on second and one out, Jim Golden took the mound for the Colt .45s and stranded the runner at third.

After six: Philadelphia 6 Houston 0.

In the top of the eighth, Mejias hit an RBI single as the Colt .45s avoided the shutout.

In the bottom of the eighth, Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s. Callison stroked an RBI single.

The Phillies got 11 hits in the win.
