Tonight is the second game in the series in Houston between the Colt .45s and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have won six of their last eight.

Detroit Tigers SP Frank Lary has a sprained ankle and will miss the next three weeks.

Chicago White Sox SP Gary Peters has a torn rotator cuff and will miss the next 15 months.

The Washington Senators traded LF Gene Woodling to the St Louis Cardinals for SS Dal Maxvill and LF Doug Clemens.

The New York Mets traded RP Clem Labine and C Choo Choo Coleman to the Detroit Tigers for RP Howie Koplitz and RP Doug Gallagher.

In thebottom of the first, Aspromonte got a two out RBI single on a full count pitch to put the Colt .45s on the board.

In the top of the second, Leppert tied the game with his own two out RBI single.

In the bottom of the second, Spangler put the Colt .45s back in the lead with a two run double. The Colt .45s went on to load the bases with one out. Mejias lined to third for the second out. Aspromonte then drew a four pitch walk to force in Spangler. Amalfitano, the ninth batter in the inning, grounded to second for the third out.

With runners at first and second and two out in the top of the third, Groat singled but Spangler threw Clemente out at home as he was trying to score from second and that retired the side.

After three: Houston 4 Pittsburgh 1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Colt .45s loaded the bases with nobody out. Mejias brought all three baserunners home with a triple. Harvey Haddix immediately took the mound for the Pirates. Aspromonte grounded into the 6-3 to score Mejias. The Colt .45s loaded the bases with one out. Tiefenauer went down on strikes for the second out. Spangler drew a walk on a full count pitch to bring Amalfitano home with a run. The eleventh batter of the inning, Buddin, grounded to short for the third out.

In the top of the fifth, Stuart got an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the sixth, Leppert hit a two out two run double.

Jack Lamabe took the mound for the Pirates in the bottom of the sixth.

After six: Houston 9 Pittsburgh 4.

Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the seventh.

Tommie Sisk took the mound for the Pirates in the bottom of the eighth.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the ninth. The Pirates loaded the bases with one out. Virdon grounded into the game ending 5-4-3.

The two teams combined for 26 hits in the contest.

Final score: Houston 9 Pittsburgh 4.
