In the top of the first, Robinson brought Adair home with a sacrifice fly to put the Reds on the board. Lynch also got an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third, the Reds loaded the bases with nobody out. Coleman hit the Reds third sacrifice fly of the game to score Robinson. Kasco followed with a single to reload the bases with one out. Edwards drew a five pitch walk to bring Lynch. Maloney came up to bat and flew out to center and Taussig threw Cardenas out at home as he had tagged up and tried to score.

Maloney had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Cincinnati 4 Houston 0.

In the top of the fourth, Lynch hit an RBI single.

Aspromonte led off the bottom of the fourth with a single for the Colt .45s first hit of the game.

Coleman led off the top of the fifth with a home run. George Brunet took the mound for the Colt .45s.

Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the sixth.

After six: Cincinnati 6 Houston 0.

In the top of the eighth, Pinson hit a two run triple and then scored himself when Robinson grounded to short.

In the bottom of the eighth, pinch hitter Billy Goodman made sure the Colt .45s avoided the shutout by hitting an RBI single. Larker followed with a run-scoring single of his own.

Dean Stone took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the ninth.

Howie Nunn took the mound for the Reds in the bottom of the ninth. Nunn would leave the game with an injury. With a runner on first and two out, Johnny Klippstein took the mound for the Reds and got the final out of the game.

The Reds banged out 12 hits in the victory.

Final score: Cincinnati 9 Houston 2.
