All Star Break 2025 Update:
Record: 42-47 (T-2nd, 7 GB)

Just after I had written this team off, we finish the first half by going 8-2 on a homestand against the Eastern Division. Ben Grates has been the MVP during that time frame, as his .383/.453/.638 slash line in July solidified his first All Star game appearance. Pedro Guzman has also continued to mash since returning from injury, hitting .353 in 9 games this month. After getting temporarily benched, 2B Manny Batres has also heated up at the plate, going 9-20 with a home run in his return to the lineup.

Our hot streak is even more impressive when you consider how bad the rotation has been over that time. Outside of Min-ho Lee, pretty much everyone else turned in poor outings. For the first time all year, the bullpen really stepped up: especially Jeremy Townsend and Jake Jones, who have not allowed a run in July. Dylan Daniels has also been a great fireman, coming in for multiple innings when our starters get knocked out early.

Injury Report:
Julio Lambruschini hit the IL with a minor calf strain, but he will return after the All Star break. Danny Gaona will likely head back down, which is unfortunate because he has been pitching well. However, I like having Curt Koonts on the USBL roster because of his ability to pitch multiple innings, which is necessary with our inconsistent rotation.

Jared Hopper has pitched 6.2 innings in AAA, striking out 3 and allowing 2 runs. We aren't in a huge rush to call him up, so he might stay in AAA past the end of his rehab assignment.

Transactions:
Jimmy Embleton has been sent back to AAA after three bad starts in a row, ballooning his ERA to 6.98. Despite pitching a shutout earlier this season, his time as a starter may be over this season. Stephon Russell has taken over the 5th spot in the rotation, and he was solid in his first start, giving up just one run in 5.1 innings.

2B Jordan Limas has been traded to the Scorpions for minor league SP Danny Chavez. Limas hasn't been getting a ton of playing time with the emergence of Manny Batres, and Chavez might be able to help out our struggling starting rotation. The 25-year old has spent all year in AAA, where he has posted a 2.89 ERA, striking out 93 in 90.1 innings. Chavez will start out in AAA for our organization, but he may receive a call to the USBL if someone gets injured. As a result of the trade, 2B David Hinojosa has been called up to the Classics. He will fill in at 2B and SS after hitting .266/.364/.380 in AAA so far this season.

OF/1B Myeong-hwan Park has been sent down to AAA, and we have called up the speedy outfielder Jose Chapparo. The 25-year old has hit .251/.307/.364 with 4 home runs and 21 stolen bases in AAA this year.

Around the League:
-Naturals LF Jeremy Stuart's hitting streak ended at 22 games against the Waves. Stuart is hitting .365 on the season, and has suddenly emerged as one of the best young contact hitters in baseball.
-Naturals RF Jim Rolston had a 6-6 day in a win over the Vupers, raising his average to .321 in 2025. Rolson also has 18 home runs with 74 runs driven in.
-Gamblers SP Damian Mendoza is out for the year with a shoulder injury. The 23-year old was 3-6 with a 4.09 ERA.
-Comets LF Rafael Cervantes went 5-5 against the Foxes, leading Spokane to an 11-0 victory. Cervantes has declined this year, but he is still hitting .273/.398/.521 with 17 home runs.
-Salukis RF Austin Nickerson went 5-5 in a win over the Waves. Nickerson is hitting .346 in his first season with Rhode Island.
-The Waves traded SS Craig Leh (.261/.325/.348) to Tulsa for SP Corey Baker (5.61 ERA, 93 IP, 81 K).
-Vipers C Alex Bonilla ended his hitting streak at 22 games in a loss against the Shockers. Bonilla has taken a huge step forward this year, as the 24-year old is hitting .304 with 10 home runs.
-Thunderbirds SP Nate Girgenti shut out the Vandals, striking out 8. Girgenti is 7-8 with a 3.13 ERA after leading the Western League with a 2.03 ERA in 2024.
