1917 Top Players Under Age 30

Walker Rosen, LF

The 3rd overall pick in 1911 out of Michigan played half a season in the majors in 1912 and then started producing in 1912. He won the 1916 MVP, 4 Silver Sluggers, 1 Gold Glove, and has made 4 All-Star teams. the Rangers inexplicably placed him on waivers in 1916 and the Astros snatched him up.

Mitsuo Azuma, CF

Azuma has had injury problems but is still capable of providing value. He was drafted 7th overall by the Brewers in 1906 out of Hardaway High School and made his debut in 1911. He has gone to two all-star games and was the 1915 World Series MVP with the Championship Brewers.

Brantley Kriegel, CF

Drafted 8th overall in 1912 from the University of Minnesota. He won the 1917 MVP award and has won both a gold glove and silver slugger. He has also made two all-star teams.

Librado Dorado, LHP

A lefty pitcher discovered out of the Dominican Republic by the Expos in 1908. He debuted in 1913 and by 1915 was one of the top pitchers in the league. He has made three all-star teams and finished 2nd in the 1917 NL Pitcher of the Year voting.

Samuela Fakahua, 2B

A 1st round draft pick by the Braves in 1909 out of Oklahoma State. He was an all-star and silver slugger in 1915 and won the World Series with the Braves this past year.

Shawn Pirkle, 2B

Pirkle was on the 1912 Royals Championship team having been drafted by them in the 1st round of 1909 out of Arizona. He has provided solid above-average value for 6 years.

Dino Reyes, RHP

Another good young Expos pitcher after spending most of his time with the Rangers. He was an international discovery from the Dominican Republic in 1904 and debuted in 1910.

Tyler Arant, 2B

Also on the Montreal Expos, Arant was drafted by them 5th overall in 1912 from the Kansas Jayhawks. He took over the starting job in 1913, has made 2 all-star teams, and provided above average value every year.
