Walkers news: June 30 -- St. Louis 9. Rockford 6
Record: 45-31, 2nd, 2.5 GB Des Moines
Aaron Nola took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a lead-off home run to pinch-hitter Roger Berndina and St. Louis went on for a 9-6 win over Rockford at Busch Stadium (1997).
Over the opening eight innings, Nola struck out six, walked one and hit a batter before Berndina took him deep.
After the home run, Nola struck out Armed Rosario before Willi Castro singled ending his day.
The Lightning would add five more runs before it was over -- Todd Frazier hit a grand slam and Taylor Lindsay a solo shot as Rockford went back-to-back against Josh Lindgren and Grant Dayton -- but it didn't really matter as the River Walkers went into the inning up 9-0.
St. Louis broke the game open early with four runs in each of the first two innings.
Ender Inciarte led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer off Rockford starter Michael Wacha.
Andrew Benintendi drove in a run later in the inning with a double. Ji-hwan Chung collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly.
The second inning saw Andrew Benintendi drive in two with a homer.
Michael Conforto drove in one with a single while a double earned an RBI for Rhys Hoskins.
