Albert Armola hit a solo homer off Des Moines reliever Leo Vazquez with two outs in the top of the eighth inning to snap a tie and give St. Louis a 5-4 win over Des Moines at LaBlatt Park.
St. Louis came out swinging, scoring three runs off Des Moines starter in the top of the first inning -- Tucker Barnhart drove in two runs with a double off Harvesters starting Marcus Stroman, Ji-hwan Chung plated the other with another double -- but Des Moines came back to even it.
The Harvesters scored twice in the second -- and then after a run-scoring fly ball by Rhys Hoskins made it 4-2 in the fourth -- Rafael Devers hit a two-run homer off Duffy in the fourth to tie it.
It remained there until Almora went deep in the eighth.
Duffy went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, before being chased.
However, the five relievers who followed him to the mound -- Grant Dayton (1.2 IP), Reyes Moronta (1.0), Keone Kela (1.0), Jake Diekman (0.1) and Daniel Hudson (0.2) -- didn't allow a run the rest of the way.
Moronta (2-2) collected his second win of the season. The save was Hudson's fifth.
