Intriguing, but not actually tempting.
The Milwaukee Cadets have offered to trade us starting pitcher Art Ferrante for catcher Zacarias Martell and minor league prospect Billy Ferguson.
Now, the intriguing part is that Art Ferrante is a terrifically talented pitcher, a strong leader, and would fit into the Denver pitching philosophy as an extreme groundball type. But he's also fragile. And really, how many great pitchers can one rotation hold? Pitching is definitely not a need for the Brewers, especially with the emergence of Sekien Hamasaki this season.
And Martell remains a very valuable asset and is wildly popular in the clubhouse and with the Brewer fans.
(Ferguson probably wouldn't be a huge loss, though our scouting staff still thinks the 22-year old left fielder has great bat potential, including plus power. But he's slow, a sub-par fielder, and reportedly lazy and not a great team-first guy, so he's not a favorite with the front office.)
Suffice it to say, the offer was summarily rejected.
