MBL news: World Series Game 5 -- Dayton 13, St. Louis 6
Michael Conforto and Alex Bregman had RBI singles off Dayton starting pitcher Yu Darvish in the top of the first inning to stake the St. Louis River Walkers to a lead.
But by the time they would score again, with a four-run top of the seventh, the Dayton Fighter Pilots were up 9-2 and well on their way to a win in Game 5 of the Midwest Baseball League World Series.
With the victory, Dayton sends the series back to St. Louis for Game 6 and a possible Game 7.
The Pilots scored their runs in bunches, plating four in the second inning, five in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
James McCann hit a three-run home run off St. Louis starter Jacob deGrom in the second inning. Buster Posey had a three-run double against Phil Maton in the sixth and Dominic Santana clouted a three-run blast off Keona Kela in the seventh inning.
Darvish earned the inning, allowing two runs in 5.1 innings. Four relievers combined to close it out for Dayton.
