A pair of 32-year old veteran sluggers won Batter of the Month honors for the month of May.
In the SJL it was Columbus' center fielder Brad Tesh. Tesh is a life-long Whaler who has won a league MVP award and is a 6-time All-Star and even at his advanced age is the spark of the Whalers offense.
Phoenix' slugging right fielder Ju-ao Ju, who has been a Speed Devil since coming to the WPK in 1967 as a free agent out of Taiwan, does not have the same work ethic reputation that Tesh does, but he remains a tremendous hitter with great power and is also known for his strong throwing arm in right. He is also a 6-time All-Star.
