Gaining a split in this series would be an overachievement considering how bad a mismatch it is.

Piniella put the Royals on the board with an RBI single that could have been 2 runs but Mayberry was thrown out at home trying to score from second.

In the top of the third, Drago set Bosman down on strikes to record his 90th K of the season. Drago did not allow a hit in the first three innings.

Mayberry picked up an RBI with a sac fly in the bottom of the third. Piniella was then robbed of another RBI when, this time, Otis was thrown out at home trying to score from second after a Piniella single.

After three: Kansas City 2 Texas 0.

Kirkpatrick added to the Royals lead with a 2 run homer in the fourth.

After six innings, Drago still had a no hitter going.

Jim Shellenback took over pitching duties for the Rangers in the bottom of the sixth.

After six: Kansas City 4 Texas 0.

Nelson broke up the no hitter with a leadoff single in the seventh.

In the eighth, Schaal hit a 2 run homer to bring his RBI total to 30 on the season. Mike Paul took the mound one batter later with a man on first and nobody out and he kept any more damage from being done.

Drago then finished off the complete game shutout.

Final score: Kansas City 6 Texas 0.
