"Injury Assignment"

HELLO!

I'm floating this idea knowing full well it could be somewhat abused because it IS disingenuous, but I think it might still be something to look into or discuss.

Occasionally there are allegations in baseball of phantom DL slots- a player going on the DL with a non obvious injury, where context seems to indicate they're on the DL because something more tacit is wrong.

The prevailing thought was that this was the case with Fat Panda this year, although he ended up needing shoulder surgery so uh... take off the tinfoil hat I guess.

Anyway, I think it would be interesting to have an option to talk to a struggling veteran player (who can refuse a minor league assignment or is otherwise out of options) and see if they have a "injury" like... back spasms or a strained oblique, something that would get them out of the lineup for awhile, give them a chance to go on a rehab assignment, or whatever.

It'd have to be a subtle communication that the player could refuse and maybe be demoralized/insulted by, where players of a certain personality type might be more or less keen to it.

And maybe there are repercussions for it! I have never heard of it happening, but I assume that if someone was caught using the DL for "fake" injuries it could be a fine or a forfeiture of draft picks or a suspension!?

Thoughts!?
