The second half of the Rangers six game West Coast trip begins with a Sunday double header in Oakland against the Athletics. The Rangers are 1-2 on this West Coast trip. The Athletics have won three straight. The Athletics have hit the most home runs and allowed the fewest runs in the American League. They also have the best defensive efficiency in the league. The Athletics lead the season series 8-1.

The Cleveland Indians traded SP Gaylord Perry to the Detroit Tigers for LF Gates Brown, SP Les Cain and $27,600.

Jim Shellenback took the mound for the Rangers with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

After six: Texas 2 Oakland 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Rudi put the Athletics back in front with a two-run shot 395 feet into right. Tenace added a run-scoring double. With runners at first and second and two out, Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers. A walk loaded the bases. Tenace then scored on a passed ball. Green then brought the other two home with a single. Ten men came to bat for the Athletics in the inning.

Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth.

Final score: Oakland 7 Texas 2.

In the top of the second, Burroughs scored on a Harrah groundout to third.

Green led off the bottom of the third with a home run. Campaneris put the Athletics in the lead with an RBI double and then scored on a Rudi single. Hendrick brought two home with a double. Batting for the second time in the inning, Green hit an RBI single. Blefary followed with a three run homer. The Athletics scorednine runs in the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Harrah hit a two-run double and scored on a Kubiak single.

After six: Oakland 9 Texas 4.

Aurelio Monteagudo took the mound for the Athletics in the top of the seventh. Burroughs got a run-scoring single. Mincher followed with a walk that loaded the bases with two out. Wynn scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hendrick brought two home with a single to bring his RBI total to 30. With a runner on first and two out, Jim Shellenback took the mound for the Rangers. The Athletics went on to load the bases with two out. Blefary flew out to right to end the inning.

After a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth, Diego Segui took the mound for the Athletics.

In the bottom of the eighth, a Harrah error on a Campaneris grounder allowed another run to score. Campaneris later would score when Bando grounded to first.

Darold Knowles came on to pitch for the Rangers in the top of the ninth.

The Athletics got an even dozen hits in the contest.
