In the top of the third, Maddox put the Rangers on the board with an RBI single. Harrah put the Rangers in the lead with a 2 run double. Burroughs added his own RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, a Duffy RBI single made it a 1 run game.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Indians had runners at the corners with one out. Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers and immediately walked Unser on four pitches to load the bases. Chambliss went down on strikes for the second out. Nettles then put the Indians back in the lead with a 2 run single.

Steve Mingori took the mound for the Indians in the top of the eighth.

The Rangers went down in order in the top of the ninth to drop a close one.

Final score: Cleveland 5 Texas 4.
