05/28/1972 - Giants Get Road Win, 4-1; Kong Homers Off Stone Again
The San Francisco Giants took Atlanta's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The final score had San Francisco getting past the Braves, 4-1. Braves' starter George H Stone went 9 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, striking out 6. Jerry Johnson earned the save for San Francisco, his 8th of the year. San Francisco, now 20-30, holds last place in the NL West Division.
The Giants got a big at-bat from first baseman Dave Kingman. Clearly happy over solidifying his position as Firstbaseman, Kingman was 1 for 4 with a home run off LHP George H Stone, good for 2 RBI. It was his 12th home run of the season gave San Francisco a 2-0 lead.
"We'll savor this win," Kingman told the San Francisco Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
