The Washington Capitals (13-12-2) pay a visit to the Bell Center to face the Canadiens. Both teams are meeting for the 1st time this year. Montreal will have G Martin King in the second night of back to back games.


The Capitals capitalize on a LD Steven Thornton giveaway as RD Dan Thiessen bangs in the rebound for a 1-0 lead. Thiessen scores his 3rd of the year at 3:27 of the 1st. The Canadiens tie it 1-1 at 12:16 when RD Etienne Daneau sends in RW Robert Cull all alone for his 4th of the season. The period ends with the score 1-1 and the Habs out shooting the Caps 9-6.


The Capitals go up 2-1 at 17:35 of the 2nd on the PP, RW Ben Burke deflects a pass past G Martin King for his 4th of the year. The 2nd ends with the Caps leading 2-1 but Montreal holding the shot advantage at 15-11.


Montreal will get a 5 minute PP as the Capitals LW Colby Webster gets a major for an illegal check to the head with 13 minutes exactly left in the game. Montreal gets 5 shots but cannot beat the Capital netminder. Montreal had all the momentum over the last 5 minutes but could not get the equalizer in a 2-1 Washington win. The final shots were 26-14 for Montreal.

Capitals LD Dan Thiessen was named the games 1st star with his goal. The 20 year old now has 3 goals and 9 points with 17 PIMs and a +3 rating in 28 games. Thiessen set a career high for points with 7 last year in 18 games with the Capitals.


Boston Bruins C Ronald Sutton had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Senators. The 33 year old now has 12 goals and 26 points with 26 PIMs and a +5 rating in 31 games. For his career, Sutton had a career high 76 points during the 2000-01 season with the Dallas Stars.


Philadelphia Flyers LW John Russell had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win over the Blues. The 33 year old now has 12 goals and 27 points with 6 PIMs and a +0 rating in 30 games. Russell set a career high with 57 points during the 2001-02 season with the Flyers and Penguins in 68 games.
