The Seattle Rainiers have come to the Skydome to play a 3 game series over the weekend. They just lost 2 of 3 in Los Angeles and have lost 11 of their last 13. We are 3-1 against them so far and this is their first trip to Portland. They are 6th in scoring in the PCL with 3.93 runs per game (Portland is up to 7th with 3.91). Seattle is 2nd to last in BA (.238), but leads the PCL in HR (75). They are dead last in fewest runs allowed with 4.89 per game (Portland is still #1 with 3.03).

Bob Dillon flies out to right. John Haynes flies out to center. Jim Rier lines a hit to center. Randy Hobson beats out an infield hit. Paul Blaine flies out to left!

Bottom of the First:
Paul Bouvet strikes out looking.... a 9.68 ERA and he strikes out looking... Omar Flores beats out an infield hit. Bob Draper grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4. Jeff Austin lines a 3-2 pitch to right and Draper easily makes it to 3rd. Tony Casarez flies out to right.

Bottom of the Second:

With 1 out, Jeff Schottler grounds a hit to right. Dennis Webb beats out an infield hit. P Frank Martin bunts the runners up. 2 outs. Paul Bouvet, who struck out looking his first time up, has a chance to do better... He does... Home run to left!! 3 to 0, Beavers!

Top of the Fifth:

With 1 out, Terry Singer doubles to right center. With 2 outs, P Ken Morrison grounds one to short and Dave Lesley throws it away for a 2 base error and Singer scores... 3 to 1, Beavers. That is Lesley's second error of the game... Are we going to have to go back to Eddie Thomas and his .188 batting average?

Bottom of the Fifth:

Paul Bouvet leads off with a hit and Omar Flores bunts him to 2nd. Bob Draper then homers to right center! 5 to 1, Beavers! P Ken Morrison is yanked. New Pitcher: Darryl Haynes (34-L). 2.89 ERA in 53 IP. With 2 outs, Tony Casarez lines a hit to center. Dave Lesley flies out to deep left.

Top of the Sixth:

John Haynes takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. With a 4 run lead, you do NOT walk batters! Jim Rier lines a 3-2 pitch to center and Haynes, running on the pitch, goes to 3rd. The Bullpen is up. What is wrong with Frank Martin? Yet another full count to Randy Hobson, but he swings and missed the payoff pitch! Paul Blaine flies out to right and Haynes holds at 3rd. 2 outs. Martin is already at 99 pitches. Pedro de Jesus lines a 2-2 pitch to right for a hit and Haynes scores. 5 to 2, Beavers. Frank Martin calls out the trainer, who escorts him back to the clubhouse.... New Pitcher: Barry Chapman (27-R). Eddie Thomas (26-R) comes in to play short in a double switch. Terry Singer swings at the first pitch and lines out to 1st!

Bottom of the Eighth:

On the Hill: Mike Aaberg (24-R), beginning his second inning of work. With 1 out, Jeff Schottler singles and C Phil Parker (28-S) draws a walk. After Eddie Thomas strikes out, they change pitchers: Hank Schneider (30-R). Paul Bouvet triples to right and 2 runs score! 7 to 2, Beavers! That is his eighth triple as a Beaver and tenth overall this season and we still have a ways to go before we reach the halfway point! Omar Flores grounds out to short.

Frank Martin (W 8-4) went 5.2 innings, allowed 2 runs (1 earned), 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2.
RHP Barry Chapman (H 5) went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 1. He balked.
RHP Jorge Reyna went 1 inning, allowed 1 unearned run and struck out 1.

Ken Morrison (L 2-4) went 4.1 innings, gave us 5 runs, 8 hits, 2 home runs, no walks and struck out 1.

2B Paul Bouvet had 3 hits with a triple and his 4th home run as a Beaver, scored 2 runs and had 5 RBI. RF Bob Draper hit his 4th home run and had 2 RBI. 1B Jeff Austin had 2 hits, CF Jeff Schottler had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. C Dennis Webb went 2 for 2 and scored a run. C Phil Parker walked in his only PA and scored a run. SS Eddie Thomas went 1 for 2.

Pepe says Frank Martin has pulled his hamstring and will be out 4 to 5 weeks.... That puts our top 2 starters on the DL...and neither due back for 5 weeks...
