Philadelphia Phillies 1B Deron Johnson was 3 for 3 with a HR and 3 RBIs in a 14-4 win over the Pirates. The 31 year old is hitting .266 with 13 HRs and 50 RBIs in 85 games. Johnson led the league in 1965 with 130 RBIs and 10 Sac Flys.

Chicago Cubs 1B Jim Hickman was 2 for 4 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs in a 19-13 loss to the Montreal Expos. A wild affair, the Expos scored 9 runs in the final two innings to overcome a 11-10 deficit. The 33 year old is hitting .292 with 16 HRs and 49 RBIs in 82 games. Hickman was named an NL All Star for this season.

The Chicago Cubs have released RP Hank Aguirre. The 39 year old is 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 7 games this year. Aguirre was an All Star in 1962 when he led the league with a 2.21 ERA and 1.05 Whip. "Mex" was his nickname as he was born in Mexico, he got Ted Williams to sign a ball after striking him out with it. The next time he face Williams, Williams hit a HR and asked Aguirre to get the ball so he could sign that one as well.

The California Angels have traded RP Juan Pizarro to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for RP Archie Reynolds. The 33 year old is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 1 game this season. Pizarro is a 2-time All Star who led the league in K/9 twice, 8.69 in 1961 and 7.66 in 1962. The "Ebony Whip" was also known for his love of food, drink, gambling and women. The 24 year old Reynolds is 0-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 14 games for the Cubs.

The New York Mets have sold the contract of SP Don Cardwell to the Atlanta Braves. The 34 year old is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 3 games including 1 start. Cardwell led the league in starts in 1961 with 38. Just after getting traded to the Cubs in 1960 and in his first start as a Cub, he NO HIT the Cardinals.
