River Walkers news: Sept. 25 -- St. Louis 7, Springfield 5
St. Louis' Nicky Delmonico hit a two-run home run off Springfield's Carl Edwards Jr. with one-out in the top of the ninth inning, giving the River Walkers a 7-5 win in Springfield, Ill.
It was the second homer of the game for Delmonico, who hit a solo shot off Matt Andriese in the fifth inning. Tucker Barnhart had a run-scoring single later in the inning, tying it at 5-5.
Springfield had owned a 5-1 lead after two innings.
The River Walkers, however, saw outfielder Andrew Benintendi leave the game with an injury after making a throw in the bottom of the second inning.
The extent of the injury to Benintendi, an MVP candidate who is batting .345 with 23 homers, 91 RBIs and 106 runs scored, is uncertain.
With the victory, St. Louis improved to 106-51 and lead Springfield by 19 games in the NL South standings.
