Thanks to yet another rainout, the Colt .45s will host the St Louis Cardinals in a Thursday double header today. Don't you just love Texas weather.

Houston Colt .45s LF Jim Pendleton announced that he would retire atthe end of the season.

In the top of the third, Javier put the Cardinals on the board first with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, a throwing error by Simmons allowed Taussig to score from third. With runners at second and third and two out, Lindy McDaniel took the mound for the Cardinals and struck out Mejias to end the inning.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the ninth.

After nine: St Louis 1 Houston 1.

In the top of the tenth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two out. Javier hit a two-run single to put the Cardinals back in the lead.

Ed Bauta took the mound for the Cardinals in the bottom of the tenth. Taussig scored on a Buddin groundout to second. With the tying run at third, Spangler grounded out to third to end the game.

The Colt .45s were held to just 4 hits in the contest.

Final score: St Louis 3 Houston 2 10 innings.

Farrell was perfect through three.

Broglio had a no-hitter through three.

Javier led off the top of the fourth with a single to end Farrell's perfect game. Flood followed with an RBI double. Musial added a run-scoring single.

In the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly by Boyer scored Flood from third.

Farrell led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to break up Broglio's no-hitter.

After six: St Louis 3 Houston 0.

With one out in the top of the eighth, Dean Stone took the mound for the Colt .45s.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, two errors allowed Larker to score and end the shutout bid. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Lindy McDaniel took the mound for the Cardinals. With two out, Amalfitano singled to score Aspromonte from third but Ranew was thrown out by Minnie Minoso while trying to advance from first to third and that ended the game.

Final score: St Louis 3 Houston 2.
