Okay, granted, Kasey O'Neill is a star, one of the finest third baseman in the game. And he's not a bad guy, either. (Though rumor has it that he might be a bit greedy.) And Malcolm Jones has a chance to be a big league third baseman in a few years and has great leadership skills. Even relief pitcher T.J. Cook, at age 35, isn't horrible and is considered a really great guy.

But Joe McPhillips. No, he's off limits. And the timing was great too. Joe turned 26 today. So maybe this was a good thing. It reminded us that we had better send a message to the league about what Joe means to our organization. On his 26th birthday we give him this gift: Joe McPhillips is now considered untouchable.
