I just had this bug, or something similar hit me in my game. Playing as the Pittsburgh Penguins, the expectations going into the 2014-2015 season were to rebuild, and I ended up winning the Stanley Cup. On July 1st 2015, for no reason whatsoever I found myself unemployed. There was no message saying I had been fired, no indication the board of directors was displeased with me.
