Ubuntu crash on startup issue

Hi there!

I've recently switched my OS from Windows 10 to Ubuntu after a couple of cataclysmic errors rendered my computer next-to-useless. I've updated my AMD A9 drivers to the newest version to no avail.

On attempting to start the program it doesn't even come up with a window, and on trying again it comes up with the dreaded:

Quote:
OOTP found that the crashed_on_startup flag is set. Obviously the game crashed when you started it last time. OOTP will reset the graphics settings to default values. You can set them back later in the Game Preferences dialog.
annoyingly I have no debug logs as the game doesn't load up enough to create a debug log. I've tried running it through Steam Play, I've tried running 'no3d', 'nofacegen', 'nothread' and 'nosound' in the advanced settings and have uninstall/reinstalled it three times.

I'm learning my way round Ubuntu still so if I'm doing something 'obviously' wrong then PLEASE tell me as this is very saddening ;-;.

I have
- Ubuntu 19.10
- the Steam version
- 7.3 GB RAM (A9-9420 radeon)

Aside from the OS I'm otherwise using the same machine that has logged over 1,000 hours on OOTP, so it's not a hardware issue.

Any information, or (even better!) a fix would be greatly appreciated :]

Additional info: turns out that the error also comes up on OOTP 19 and 18, BUT OOTP 17 runs fine. Has something changed in those years?

Additional additional info: running the stand-alone ootp20.sh file in Terminal actually works! So... OOTP 21 might work if I use the standalone...? Running the ootp20.sh file in Terminal from the Steam Commons folder, however, is still a no-go.
