Opening Day!

We start the season on the road with a 2 game series at Los Angeles. They finished 3rd in the PCL West last year with 91 wins. We had 4 teams win 90 games or more in the PCL West and 2, including us, who lost 100. They were 12th in the PCL with 661 runs scored and 1st in fewest runs allowed with only 499! 2nd best was San Diego with 620.

Top of the Third:
Jack Hinckley leads off with a liner to left for a hit. With 1 out, he steals 2nd and then goes to 3rd when P Steve Muir grounds out to 2nd. With 2 outs, Melvin Rodarte lines a double to right center and Hinckley scores! 1 to 0, Beavers! Dave Risinger grounds out to the pitcher for the second time today...

Bottom of the Third:
Britt Snyder leads off by dropping a bunt down the 3rd base line for a hit. Javier Rodriguez then doubles to right center and Snyder tries to score from 1st. The throw home is cut off and we nail Rodriguez trying to advance to 3rd, but the game is tied at 1 all. Rodriguez is hurt and has to leave the game. P Sam Henderson doubles to center... With 2 outs, Eli Henderson swings at a 3-2 pitch and strikes out!

Top of the Ninth:
Still tied at 1. New Pitcher: Hal Ockey (25-R), their closer. Jerry Grant strikes out. Glenn Snowden swings at a 3-2 pitch and flies out to left. Fernando Mexicano swings at a 3-2 pitch and strikes out for the third time today...

Bottom of the Ninth:
On the Hill: Garry Ayers (28-R), beginning his second inning of work. Brice Lundvall lines a hit to left center. Charlie Allen swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds out to 2nd and Lundvall moves into scoring position. Jorge Prado strikes out! We walk Fernando Vargas intentionally. Britt Snyder strikes out looking!

Acosta tries to bunt, but pops out to the pitcher. PH Oscar Trejo (28-R) is sent up and we make another Call to the Bullpen: Bobby Weatherford (30-R). Trejo flies out to left. 2 outs. Eli Henderson takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... Bruce Lundvall grounds a hit to right and Schafer scores easily...

RHP Garry Ayers (L 0-1) went 2+ innings, allowed 1 run, 2 hits, 2 walks (1 INT) and struck out 2.
LHP Dick Register faced 1 batter and got him out.
RHP Bobby Weatherford got 1 out and allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.

Sam Henderson went 8 innings, gave us 1 run, 6 hits, no walks and struck out 5. At bat, he hit a double.
RHP Hal Ockey (W 1-0) went 2 scoreless innings, gave us 1 hit and struck out 3.

2B Melvin Rodarte had 2 hits with a double and our RBI. 3B Fernando Mexicano, in his Major League debut, went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. CF Jack Hinckley had 3 hits, stole a base and scored our only run, but was caught stealing twice.

For the Angels, RF Bruce Lundvall had 3 hits and knocked in the winning run.

The Angels announced that SS Javier Rodriguez had a sprained ankle that would give him a limp for the next 5 days or so.
