05/29/1985 - Tigers Walk Off with Win
The Tiger Stadium faithful were treated to a dramatic, walk-off win.
Oakland got a terrific performance from pitcher Chris Codiroli, but it wasn't enough to beat the Detroit Tigers. Detroit won the Tiger Stadium contest, 3-2. Codiroli was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings allowing 2 runs. The winner was Chuck Cary in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Steve Ontiveros took the loss.
Nelson Simmons was the walk-off hero for Detroit. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Tigers left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring double to send the teams home.
"I was a little disappointed," said Oakland manager . "We could've and should've scored more runs."
