05/07/1985 - Blue Jays Edge Athletics, 10-9

Len Matuszek led Toronto to a triumph over Oakland. The final score was 10-9. The designated hitter went 3 for 5, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He scored 1 run and added 6 RBI. Toronto reliever Luis Leal got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jose Rijo was tagged with the loss. Oakland, at 8-19, is off to a poor start in 1985.

Matuszek had a game-changing single in the bottom of the 12th. On a 1-0 fastball from Jose Rijo, he banged a run-scoring single to right, giving the Blue Jays a 10-9 lead. It was the 16th hit of the year for Matuszek.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Matuszek told reporters after the game.
