04/16/1985 - Late Rally by Mariners Seals 4th Straight Win
Seattle right-hander Mike Moore made an effective start against the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum, leading his team to a 3-2 win. Moore, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Getting the save was Karl Best, his 1st.
Had Ivan Calderon not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Calderon hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Mariners.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Calderon.
With their winning streak at 4, the Mariners have raced to a strong start this season.
