The Chicago White Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics, 6-3, in AL action at Oakland Coliseum, with Chicago pitcher Dan Spillner named player of the game. In 7.1 innings, Spillner surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. The White Sox bumped their record to 80-63 with this latest triumph.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when second baseman Scott Fletcher hit a single. The White Sox went on to win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Spillner. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
