The MLB Commissioner Bowie Kuhn has announced the suspension of Detroit Tigers SP Denny McLain for 3 months effective April 1st, 1970. McLain is suspected to be involved in a bookmaking operation. The 25 year old was 20-17 with 1 save, a 2.64 ERA in 41 starts for the Tigers last year.

The New York Yankees have purchased the contract of 1B Ron Hanson from the Chicago White Sox. The 31 year old hit .209 with 7 HRs and 26 RBIs in 115 games for the White Sox in 1969. Hanson was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1960 with the Orioles. Hansen missed the complete 1957 season due to sciatica, lower back and leg pain. He did make it to the bigs as a full time player in 1960 and won the Rookie of the Year award with 22 HRs and 86 RBIs. Hansen was traded to the White Sox with Hoyt Wilhelm for Luis Aparicio in 1963. Hansen missed much of the 1966 season with again his back injury and required surgery. After another trade to the Senators took place, he was the 8th man to ever complete an "unassisted triple play" in history during the 1968 season.
