TBU West Division

Zakharov's HR Topples Lynx
Smoke Zakharov clubbed a 3-run homer in the top of the sixth to lead Arlon over first place La Claire 4-3. That was all the runs Ray Hunt (2-1) needed to notch his second victory. He went the distance and held the Lynx to 6 hits, while fanning 3 and walking just one. Nick Pilsner (0-1) was pinned with the loss as he doled out 4 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings of work. Catcher Dennis Weiss had a solo homer for La Claire.

The Lynx are still the top team in the TBU West with a mark of 10-3, while Arlon (6-7) is now in third place along with the Bayview Vikings (6-7).

Frogs Flogs Bucs 7-2
The Fairfax Frogs got a little closer to first place in the TBU West with a 7-2 comeback win over last place Bay St. Clair. Three homers did the damage - 3B Stan Cobb (4th) hit a solo shot in the fourth, the IPA HR leader Gregg Vincent (9th) belted a 2-run blast in the seventh for a 3-2 lead and RF Gator Davis (4th) finished off the Buccaneers in the eighth with a grand slam. 1B Vincent also is the IPA leader with 21 RBIs. Bay St. Clair had a dozen hits, but couldn't cash in on Robby Meredith (1-0), who seemed to pitch better with men on base. Meredith walked two and had two strikeouts in the game. Ted Jorgerson (0-3) held the Frogs to one run in the first six frames, but then faltered in the seventh and eighth. He allowed 6 runs and 8 hits in defeat.

Fairfax (8-5) trails first place La Claire (10-3) by two games. Bay St. Clair (4-9) is wallowing in the basement 6 games off the pace.

Viks Shut Out Blue Sox 8-0
It was a rainy day at Harbor Stadium in Blue Lake and a blue, blue day for the Blue Sox, who were blanked 8-0 by Bayview. Adrian Strom (1-1) and Paul Hood combined for the 3-hit shutout. Strom went into the sixth, but his arm tightened up in the chilly rain and Paul Hood came in from the bullpen. Strom struck out 2, walked 4 and permitted only 2 hits. Hood came on with two outs in the sixth and gave up only one hit the rest of the way. It was his first save this year. LF Glenn Burns and SS Shorty Richards sparked the Vikings at bat with a pair of hits and 2 RBIs each.
Travis Gallagher (0-2) took the loss. He was rapped for 6 runs and 8 hits in 4+ innings.

Bayview (6-7) is tied with Arlon for the third spot in the TBU West Division and trail first place La Claire by four games. With the defeat Blue Lake (5-8) dropped back to fifth.
