Tycobbian Baseball Union

TBU East Division

Hellcats and 'Canes Tied for First
The Hartsdale Hellcats edged the Luxora Zorros 4-3 behind some outstanding pitching by Roger Graves (1-2). He stifled the Z's on just 2 hits until weakening in the ninth. With two outs and a 4-1 lead he gave up a single to Pedro Vizquel and a 2-run homer to Paul Hallenbeck, then gave way to Gene Young who closed it out. He retired the dangerous Roberto Vina on a routine grounder to get his second save. Vina had homered earlier in the game.
Eddie Castillo garnered the loss, permitting 4 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings. He had 4 strikeouts with just one walk.
The Hellcats are 7-5 and tied for first place in the TBU East with the Cape Coral Hurricanes, while the Luxora Zorros dipped to 6-6 and a second place tie with Ginza and Ozarka.

Stallions Stall Hurricanes in Extra Innings
Cape Coral manager Zoggy White was not too happy with his club's 6-4 loss in extra innings to the South Fork Stallions. The Hurricanes took a 3-1 margin into the top of the ninth and couldn't hold it, then lost it in the tenth. Pinchhitter Gene Woodruff wielded the big stick with a 3-run double to make 4-3 in favor of the Stallions. Cape Coral managed to tie it with the help of a crucial throwing error by center fielder Eddie Isaksen. Isaksen redeemed himself with single in the tenth. With one out he moved to second on a walk and then came around to score on catcher Ronnie Blair's bloop single. South Fork added an insurance run on Mac Stewart's ground out. Reliever Glenn Turnbull (2-0) pitched the last two frames for the win, while Scotty Lohmeyer was tagged with the loss.
In all the two clubs committed 8 errors, 4 apiece. This ties the IPA mark set by Glasco (2) and Far Mountain (6) on April 27, 2001. The Redhawks hold the record for the most by one team.
The Hurricanes are now 7-5 in the TBU East and deadlocked with Hartsdale for the top spot. The Stallions are still last in the division with a 4-8 mark.

Ozarka Nudges by Ninjas 7-5
Ozarka outdid Ginza 7-5 with late-inning rallies to move up into a tie for third place in the TBU East. Trailing 5-4 going into the last of the seventh, the Naturals put one run on the board to tie it and then followed it up with 2 in the eighth to win it. C Billy Gibson supplied the winning blow with a two-run homer off losing pitcher Toshiharu Ito (0-1), who failed to hold on to the lead. Yasuyuki Nakagawa (2-0) picked up the victory by retiring the side in order in the last two innings.
Ozarka is now 6-6 and in a three-way tie for the number two spot in the TBU East Division with Ginza and Luxora.
