Sacramento Solons (13-9 .591 2 GB tied for 2nd place in the PCL West) at
Portland Beavers (15-7 .682 in 1st place in the PCL West)

SAC: Darrell Williams (26-R 1-1 4.62) vs. POR: Frank Flores (24-R 3-1 2.45)

Williams has had 2 starts where he has gone 8 IP and allowed 2 runs and 2 starts where he got hit hard. He was 12-10 with a 3.16 ERA last year. He was 2-1 against us last year with 2 good games and one bad one.

Flores has pitched 2 straight shutouts, including a no-hitter. Last time out, he gave up 6 hits. Only 4 walks in 4 starts so far. He has never faced the Solons before, believe it or not.

Largest crowd ever, except for Opening Day!

Top of the First:

Harvey Turner ends our No-No hopes and probably our third straight shutout hopes with a triple to center... Bob Swanson swings at the first pitch and pops out to center and Turner stays put. Dennis Rayner flies out to deep left and Turner trots home. 1 to 0, Solons. Jim Holberton strikes out looking on 3 pitches!

Bottom of the First:
Jerry Suazo swings at the first pitch and grounds out to 1st, 3-1. My patience with him his getting thin... Brian Mitchell beats out an infield hit. My elation with him is growing every day! Oscar Trejo grounds a hit to center and Mitchell beats the throw to 3rd! I wish Trejo could play the outfield... Well, technically, he can, but he has no range and no arm. Fernando Mexicano lines a hit to right and Mitchell scores! Tie Game: 1 to 1. Carlos Lopez strikes out on 3 pitches... Dave Risinger beats out an infield hit and the bases are loaded with 2 outs. A.J. Lee breaks his bat, but bloops a hit to right and 2 runs score!! 3 to 1, Beavers! Jim Shippy grounds one to 2nd, but former Gold Glover Jim Holberton boots it! P Frank Flores grounds out to 1st, 3-1.

Bottom of the Second:

Jerry Suazo lines a hit to center and Brian Mitchell doubles down the left field line! Oscar Trejo lines out to left and the runners hold. A wild pitch scores Suazo! 4 to 1, Beavers! Fernando Mexicano lines one to short, but it hits off the heel of Angel Arana's glove for an error and Mitchell scores! 5 to 1, Beavers! With 2 outs, Dave Risinger lines a hit to center. That does it for P Darrell Williams. New Pitcher: Brian Beeman (30-L) with a 1.23 ERA in 14.2 IP. A.J. Lee pops out to left.

Bottom of the Fifth:
A.J. Lee leads off with a home run to left! 6 to 1, Beavers!

Bottom of the Sixth:

New Pitcher: Jim Fabre (24-R), a rookie with an 0.63 ERA in 14.1 IP and 13 SO. Brian Mitchell lines his fourth hit of the day to left center. Oscar Trejo doubles to left center! Fernando Mexicano walks on 4 pitches to load the bases up with no outs. Carlos Lopez strikes out on 3 pitches.... Dave Risinger beats out an infield hit and Mitchell scores! 7 to 1, Beavers! A.J. Lee strikes out. Jim Shippy pops out to left...

Top of the Seventh:
Jim Holberton walks and we get the Bullpen stirring. Larry Pierce lines a hit to left, only the 3rd of the game for Sacramento. Joaquin Hernandez walks to load them up with no outs... Call to the Bullpen: Vic Kyzer (24-L). Mario Vasquez grounds into a 4-6-3 double play and Holberton scores. 7 to 2, Beavers. Angel Arana strikes out looking!

Bottom of the Seventh:
With 1 out, Jerry Suazo grounds a double down the right field line. Brian Mitchell, looking for his fifth hit of the day, has the patience to take a 3-2 pitch for ball 4! With 2 outs, Fernando Mexicano hits a home run to right!!! 10 to 2, Beavers! That is already the sixth time we have hit double digits this year! Our record is seven for the season, set in 2001.

Won - 10 to 2

We had 18 hits (ties the season high) and made no errors
Sacramento had 4 hits and made 2 errors

Frank Flores (W 4-1) went 6+ innings, allowed 2 runs, 3 hits, 4 walks and struck out 2.
LHP Vic Kyzer faced 2 batters and got 3 outs with a strikeout.
LHP Victor Alvarez went 2 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 4.

Darrell Williams (L 1-2) went 1.2 innings, gave us 5 runs (4 earned), 8 hits, no walks and struck out 1. He threw a WP.

RF Jerry Suazo had 2 hits with a double and scored 2 runs. CF Brian Mitchell went 4 for 4 with a double and a walk and scored 4 runs. 1B Oscar Trejo had 2 hits with a double and scored a run. 3B/LF Fernando Mexicano had 2 hits with his 7th home run of the season, drew a walk, scored 2 runs and had 5 RBI. He has a home run in 3 straight games. LF Carlos Lopez hit a double. SS Dave Risinger had 3 hits and an RBI. 2B A.J. Lee had 3 hits with his 2nd home run and 3 RBI. It appears that he has taken over the 2nd base job from Juan Flores, though tomorrow will be a scheduled day off for him.

For Sacramento, LF Harvey Turner went 3 for 3 with a triple and a walk and scored a run. He had 3 of the Solons' 4 hits.
