There are a couple of interesting aspects about the accompanying article by Gary Ashwill. There is some conjecture that Tat Mays may be the father of Willie Mays, though it's difficult to prove the case because Willie can't recall his dad's playing baseball on the West Coast. While Gary Ashwill mentions the various amateur teams on which Tat Mays played, he omits the Negro League team, the St. Louis Stars. Yet Gary describes this Tat Mays as a pitcher/catcher/infielder and says that he also carried the nickname of "Peewee." According to Seamheads.com, the Negro League player was also known both as Tat and Peewee, and his real first name was Willie. It all seems like too much of a coincidence for it not to be the correct Tat Mays.
