Thursday, October 8th 1970 Alexandria vs Fort Worth 7:05pm

Jimmy Key(14-10) vs Earl Wilson(20-5)

Rain, 60 degrees, wind blowing in from center 10mph.

Earl Wilson gave up a back to back singles to Marty Marion and Ed Kranepool in the 1st inning. Jim Presley would hit a deep fly ball to left center. The ball was hit deep enough to allow Marion to move up the 3B. Joe DiMaggio came to the plate. The first pitch to Joe was in the dirt, going all the way to the backstop. Marion scored, 1-0 Alexandria

Jimmy Key got the Aces leadoff hitter Bobby Kielty to pop out to start the game. He then yields singles to Stan Hack and Pete Rose. Up stepped Ken Griffey Jr. Junior wasted no time in depositing the very pitch he seen into the right field seats. 3 run home run. Fort Worth 3-1

The game would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the 6th. Tony Perez would get things started for Fort Worth with a double over 3B. Earl Averill the very next batter would fall behind 0-2. Averill then deposited the next Jimmy Key offering in the left field seats, 417 feet away. 5-2 Fort Worth

After giving up the run in the 1st, Earl Wilson settled down and pitched a great game. He would remain in the game to start the 9th for the Mustangs. Ed Kranepool would reach base on a error by Hal Chase at 1B. Wilson would get Jim Presley to fly out to right field. He would then leave a 1-2 fastball over the center of the plate to Joe DiMaggio. DiMaggio hit it 427 feet for a home run. 5-3 Fort Worth. Wilson was pulled from the game in favor of Tim Crews. Crews wasted no time getting Billy Sample to ground out. He then allowed a single to Dave Watkins. Buddy Blair the next batter up singled past short moving Watkins to 3rd, but Watkins ignored his base coach and headed for home. OUT! Game over Fort Worth wins 5-3
