From the Sept 1891 issue of Mitt Slingers Magazine...Hank Griffin drops from sight with his loss to Thompson...Jack O'Brien is warned by the IBU that he can advance no further in their rankings fighting only six round bouts...George Chuvalo is ranked above Peter Jackson but Jackson is already set to fight Corbett for the title...Tom Sharkey rises from No 8 to No 5 while George Godfrey drops from No 5 to No 9...John L Sullivan is recovering from his beating by Jimmy Bivins while his manager scrambles to make a match that will revive his fortunes...Fight promoters use the IBU's rankings to gauge what a fighter is worth at the box office...Having consulted with boxers, former fighters, managers and promoters, the IBU dictates what the cuts for purses should be with fighters in the top five commanding the largest percentage, those in the bottom five commanding somewhat less, the remaining 10 receiving less than the bottom five of the top 10, and the others left to the mercy of fight promoters...IBU dictates stipulate that no manager may take more than 20% of a fighter's purse and at least 5% of every purse must be banked in trust as a pension...
