Tuesday, April 2, Year II

Opening Day!

We get to start the season at home this year with 2 games against the Denver Bears. We were 8-4 against them last season. They were 2nd in the PCL in scoring with 752 runs last year (4.64 per game). We were 9th with 640 runs (3.95 per game). They were last in fewest runs allowed with 783 (4.83 per game). We were first with 552 (3.41 per game). They had a quiet off-season and did not sign any significant free agents. Their only new player came from us: LF Howard McNeal (30-R), who is on their bench and who's birthday is tomorrow.

Denver Bears (82-80 .506 11 GB in 4th place last season in the PCL East) at
Portland Beavers (95-67 .586 in 1st place last season in the PCL West)

DEN: Tony Tirado (25-L 3-2 4.23 last year) vs. POR: Frank Martin (27-R 15-12 2.99 last year)

The Bears changed their starting pitcher from who they announced yesterday, so the blue highlights in "Meet the Beavers" are not all correct now... Tirado missed significant time to injury last year and we never faced him. He had a 1.27 ERA this Spring with 5 BB and 22 SO in 21.1 IP. Very impressive.

Martin walked almost a batter per inning this Spring...
