I personally liked the player ratings in EHM and it was a good, quick reference to what I was looking for.
Yes it was offense-geared, but I also learnt pretty quickly what sort of ratings to expect. (Ex: if you're 2nd liner goal-scorer is 6-6-6-6-6 for his last five games, he's playing rubbish BUT if you're enforcer is at 6.54AvR for the season, he's playing pretty decently.)
I obviously did use a player's attributes ratings, their stats (goals, assists, pims, fights won etc) and scouting reports also to get an in-depth review on the player - but for a quick-check the AvR was handy.
