2062 Season:

It finally happened! The MIDLAND ROCK HOUNDS became the first ever MiLB team to win the World Series. They defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in 6 games. The Rock Hounds led the league in runs scored and batting average, and their bullpen ranked 9th in the majors in ERA.

The SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS were relegated to the Pit of Despair. They finished 49-113, finishing four games behind the Missoula Osprey for last place.

145 teams remain in Major League Baseball...

In Memoriam: Springfield Cardinals

AA- St. Louis Cardinals

AA Teams Remaining: 21

Cardinals Affiliates Remaining: 4/6

All Time Record: 3339-3930 (.459)

Best Season: 2053, 99-62, 9th place

Best Hitter: Juan Borja (2040-2048)

Originally drafted by Augusta, Borja played for Nashville and Round Rock before the Express released him in April of 2040. His career WAR to this point was -1.6. Borja signed with Springfield the following day, and the rest is history. He turned his career around almost immediately, slashing .305/.367/.474 in 102 games down the stretch. Two seasons later, he hit 35 home runs with a 143 OPS+, his first of 6 consecutive seasons with 30 homers. When his lengthy extension ran out in 2048, he was Springfield's all time leader in WAR, home runs, OPS, and games played. Borja truly is one of the game's great stories.

Best Pitcher: Steve Walker (2053-2052)

A former #1 overall pick, Walker burst onto the scene in 2055, when he pitched 250 innings with a 2.59 ERA, finishing second in Cy Young voting. However, he never lived up to that one season again. He has been a solid starter, but he never again had an ERA under 3.60, and he never struck out more than 200 batters. Walker will be a free agent next year at the age of 35.

Notes:

Gwinnett 2B Phil Dumont led the league with a .375 batting average and 11.1 WAR. Just 25 years old, Dumont is set to be a star in the league for a long time.

Gwinnett RF and Dumont's teammate Doug Wise led the league with 53 home runs. With both stars still on rookie contracts, this team hit 302 home runs. They should be fun to watch over the next few years.

Visalia RF Sergio Irizarry led the league with a 1.150 OPS.

Dayton SP Joe Porter led the league with a 1.77 ERA.

St. Lucie SP Steve Murray struck out 316 batters, his second consecutive season striking out at least 300.

Joey Fechter was unable to sign with a team this past offseason. He retired with 860 home runs, behind only Mike Trout's 888 and Cody Bellinger's 887. The active home run leader is now Red Sox 1B Ron Pickett with 645, but the 39-year-old is unlikely to challenge the record.

After a horrendous season, SP Esteban Moreno retired with 4092 strikeouts, putting him 8th all time. Despite being incredibly effective last year, Moreno pitched to a 7.92 ERA in 27 starts this year, striking out just 72 batters.

The Los Angeles Angels were the worst MLB team, going 76-86 and finishing in 97th place.
