Walkers news: May 17 -- St. Louis 4, Kansas City 3
Record: 19-14, 2nd, 1 GB Des Moines
Nicky Delmonico hit a three-run home run off Kansas City starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet in the bottom of the third inning to wipe out a 2-0 deficit and spur St. Louis to a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
Joey Gallo pounded a two-run homer off River Walkers starter Alex Faedo in the top of the first to put the Pit Masters in front.
St. Louis added an insurance run in the fourth -- Bo Bichette drew a lead-off walk, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Faedo singled with two outs -- and it proved important as Kansas City pulled back with a run in the eighth.
Brian Mundell connected on a bases-loaded single off Phil Maton to make it 4-3.
With the bases still jammed and two outs, Bobby Poyner came on and struck out Yordan Alvarez to end the inning.
Faedo pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out 10 and walked one.
He also was 2 for 2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.
Jake Brentz got the final out of the seventh inning and the first two outs in the eighth.
Tommy Kahnle handled the ninth, earning his sixth save.
