In the top of the first, the Mariners loaded the bases with nobody out. Olerud went down on strikes for the first out. Boone drew a four-pitch walk to force in the game's first run. Valentin booted a Cameron grounder to allow Suzuki to score from third. Guillen drew a walk on a full count pitch to make it 3-0. Bell popped up to third for the second out. Wilson, the ninth batter in the inning, flew to right to retire the side. None of the Mariners runs in the inning were earned.

Kelly Wunsch took the mound for the White Sox in the top of the fifth. The Mariners loaded the bases with two out. McLemore grounded to short to retire the side.

After a leadoff single in the top of the sixth, Sean Lowe took the mound for the White Sox.

In the bottom of the sixth, the White Sox loaded the bases with nobody out. Konerko put the White Sox on the board with an RBI single. Jamie Moyer took the mound for the Mariners. Cameron threw Ordonez out at home when he tagged up and tried to score on a Canseco fly ball.

After six: Seattle 3 Chicago 1.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Antonio Osuna took the mound for the White Sox.

In the bottom of the ninth, Kazuhiro Sasaki took the mound for the Mariners. Singleton hit an RBI double. With a runner on second and one out, Arthur Rhodes took the mound for the Mariners. With two out, Durham flew to left to end the game.

The White Sox could not overcome their three errors.
