In the bottom of the first, the Royals got on the board thanks to a sacrifice fly from Piniella.

After three: Kansas City 1 Texas 0.

In the top of the fourth, Billings delivered the game-tying RBI single.

After a leadoff single in the top of the sixth, Ted W Abernathy took the mound for the Royals. Wynn greeted him with an RBI double that put the Rangers in the lead. The Rangers went on to load the bases with nobody out. Billings drew a five pitch walk to force in a run. Al Fitzmorris took the mound for the Royals. Harrah grounded into the 6-2-3 double play. An intentional walk to Kubiak loaded the bases with two out. Bosman then drew a five pitch walk to force in a run. Maddox then lined out to first to retire the side as the Rangers battedaround the order.

After six: Texas 4 Kansas City 1.

In the top of the seventh, Mincher got a run-scoring single to increase the Rangers lead.

Norm Angelini took the mound for the Royals in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Piniella got an RBI single. Schaal addedone as well.

After a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers. Mayberry singled with two out to make it a one-run game. But Piniella flew to right to end it.

The two teams combined for 22 hits in the contest.

Final score: Texas 5 Kansas City 4.
