Chance Encounter with HOF'er Reaps Rewards for Young Pitcher

At a charity event last week, young prospect Jim Smith happened to meet Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Jones. The two spoke for no more than fifteen minutes, but Smith came away from the conversation a changed player. Jones is regarded as arguably the most dominant pitcher of his day, and he was able to impart some wisdom to Smith.
"Everyone knows Bob Jones was a beast on the mound. The guy put up [Jones's career strikeouts] strikeouts! I asked him, jokingly, if he had any tips, and, boy, did he ever." When probed further about just what Jones said to him, Smith was decidedly tight lipped. "It's not something I want my opponents to benefit from," he said with a smirk.
Whatever Jones did say, Smith has improved my leaps and bounds. Expect to see markedly improved strikeout numbers from him going forward.
